The Douglas Newton Archive © Copyright 2001 Virginia-Lee Webb Ph.D. contains information about the life and career of Bryan Leslie Douglas Newton (September 22, 1920 – September 19, 2001). It includes personal information, correspondence, unpublished and published texts about art, lectures, diaries, photographs by him and his second wife Kathleen Haven in numerous locations including the Pacific. The Archive includes biographical data, details about his professional accomplishments, art collections, curriculum vitae, his poetry, letters and other unpublished texts from his life in England and the United States. Additional unique material about Newton’s career is in The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, Department of the Arts of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas, where Newton was employed from 1974 until 1990. The Archive of the Museum of Primitive Art contains correspondence, photographs, and primary information in various media, regarding Newton’s activities as Curator and Director at The Museum of Primitive Art 1957-1974, and his work as Chairman of the Department at the Metropolitan Museum from 1975 – 1990.
